Midsummer Ramblings
Does absence really make the heart grow fonder? Well hopefully that is somewhat true since I haven't posted here in a very long time!
My MIA excuse? Summer and the onslaught of camera fever that came with the warmer days! In my quest to get to know my camera better, I have been on the hunt for new adventures to photograph and have found myself with dirt flying in my face at the race track, dancing to Pretty Woman at the Polo For Heart Match, oh and can't forget sitting in the bush waiting for a hawk, and the not so dainty, tiptoe through a flower bed at the botanical gardens to capture butterfly on a flower. If you want to view a few of my summer adventure photos head over to my photo blog Beyond the Dog Dish.
I didn't totally neglect the dogs though!
Becky really enjoys training. So all winter we worked at learning Rally Obedience. I thought we were ready for our first Rally Fun Match this summer. Whoops, I learned a valuable lesson! Perfection at home or in class in no way prepared us for the high distractions a new location brings on.
Back to the training pad for us! Someone gave me good advice and suggested to train Becky at a busy park. When she had that down, go to a new location - keep practicing in new areas till she can focus right off the bat in a new location. So on that note, I guess I have my work already laid out for this fall.
Rally is not very popular where I live - actually, most dog sports are not popular where I live. So that means I have to be resourceful and seek out my own materials; books Click Your Way to Rally, Yahoo Groups Attention Games for Rally and Sport, blogs The Dogs Are Really In Charge, Leash Free Living and competition videos.
Meet Becky's niece! This little girl is the smallest of the litter but she takes no nonsense from her 4 brothers over at Embee Cavaliers! In fact, Lil' Miss was first to bust loose out of the puppy pen and climb over the wall!
We also got to have a visit with Becky's Mom at the Cavalier Fanciers of Southern Ontario Specialty Show. Reese maybe over 7 but she is in fine shape and looking HOT in the Old Timers Fun Match. Look at that smile - like Mother like Daughter!

At the end of the day Becky got her favourite type of reward - nothing beats a post workout snuggle. My reward was watching her do that whole body wag (complete with a goofy grin) while doing the course - she really loves her one on one time with me.

Friday the 13th Brings Good Luck!
Did someone say Friday the 13th is "The Un-Luckiest Day of the Calendar Year"? Ding Dong!! Not here!
Welcome to the first, Friday the 13th
for 2012! It will be a special year with the rare opportunity of seeing 3 months with Fridays on the 13th. January, April and July. Since 1860 this has only happened 3 times and the last time this happened was 1984.
We started our first 2012 Friday 13th rather dismal, dark and grumpy. Then the door bell rang. Hmmm package arrival. What’s that a B&H PhotoVideo logo. WIDE EYES! Pretty nice surprise not but weeks after Christmas for me. Someone rather sweet sent a new 85mm lens my way. Kodee is thinking Dad really should have thrown in a bone or two since this means more "posing" time.

Just a few quick photos taken here, but wow, look at that depth of field. So excited to get the hang of this new lens!
So to my fellow friends, remember if today seems bleak, dismal, filled with no hope - have faith, better days are around the corner ;) My "Cavs Speak" the truth always!

Getting To The HEART Of The Matter
Talk, Talk, Talk.
Talk is cheap. Now listening. That's a talent!
~~~~
So Becky started Agility. She loves it and moves at the speed of lightening!
Me... oh my, two left feet trying to remember turns, commands, directions... I'm a train wreck!
Good thing she is a fast learner, loves a challenge and is all wag!
Becky thankfully forgives my imperfections.
Offer a bribe - I mean reward and she is game to try anything new!
Cavaliers are wired to please and they do with all their heart!
Each night Becky and I return from class, Kodee almost runs me down to sniff Becky all over. I get the impression Kodee does not trust me to see to it no harm comes to Becky. Then she turns, looks at me and snorts, trots off and leaves the room. For the better part of the next 24 hours I get a cold shoulder.
Well someone is acting temperamental, aren't they!
Hey! What do we have here?!
Yes! A Cavalier on the cover of this month's DOGSport Magazine!
Call Me Stupid!
Say What? I am not supposed to call my dog breed a Cav? Who says? Why not? Oh dear. Why must I always be so difficult and discuss these things publicly. Sorry, but...
Someone started a Facebook Group to tell those of us that do - we are wrong. Oh oh... you see the real problem here don't you? Someone told me I was wrong!!
February is Heart Month
I've been accused of finding a way to work my dogs into every conversation. So true! It drives many mad. February is no exception! February is Heart Month; we celebrate love with Valentines, and we celebrate life with smart heart health. Well I am not leaving the dogs out of this conversation either!
