Cavalier 2nd at Crufts 2011, in Heelwork to Music!

Who said don't expect a Cavalier to play fetch?

What a great team! At just 16, Rose Jenkins and her Cavalier Sam took 2nd place for their Heelwork to Music routine at the "Crufts" the World's Largest Dog Show in the UK. Watch how smooth Sam is with his dance moves and he exhibits such enthusiasm too!

The first public performance of heelwork to music, was performed by Mary Ray in the UK in 1990. What quickly followed was an "enthusiastic explosion" of dog owners wanting to participate. Take a look at Mary's website for great resources, an informative forum and fun videos.

So what is this bit about Cavaliers and
"JUST DON'T EXPECT IT TO FETCH"?!
That is what Erin Skarda stated in her article for TIME News Feed. I am a tad confused? I thought part of a journalist's job was to do a bit of research and report the facts? Certainly the Cavaliers I highlighted in my post "The ROYAList of Cavaliers; More Than a Pretty Face" do more than fetch. Cavaliers excel at agility, obedience, dance, hunting and why yes, they play FETCH! I am thinking Erin needs a nice collage of Cavaliers playing fetch sent her way. She is entitled to her opinon that Cavaliers can't play fetch, but then I suppose I am entitled to mine, that some reporters can't research.
Take THAT Erin!

Well, who needs to fetch with moves like that? What a charming performance! I don't think Sam's tail ever stopped wagging!

Wow! Mum thinks that was awesome!

Us boys on the other hand... we loved watching it, but that looks like *way* too much energy is needed!

We would have to sleep for a week straight to recover from it! Mum has tried to get Pirate interested in dancing before, but he always gets distracted by something, or goes to sleep.

Cav's can't fetch? Apparently no one told Magnus!LOL He LOVES to fetch, which is so fun cause I never had a dog that did love it like he does. One time I said to friends that Meeka (Rottie) didn't fetch and they said, "If you wanted a dog that fetched you should have got a retriever." I was thinking, "only retrievers can fetch?" Magnus has proved them wrong.:)

Aw...what a gorgeous routine - and a fantastic team!!

And I love it when "unconventional" dogs steal the sho in these dog sports and explode all those breed stereotype myths! :-)
